Obituary of Edwin Mitchell Bruntlett
In Memory of Edwin (Mitch) Bruntlett
1931–2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin (Mitch) Bruntlett, aged 93, of Sherwood Park, Alberta. After a brief stay at Jubilee Lodge, surrounded by family, Mitch passed away on Monday, Feb 3.
Mitch was born in Trail, B.C., to Edwin and Pearl Bruntlett on May 8, 1931. After his father’s passing in 1937, Mitch attended school, taught in the early years by his schoolteacher mother, and graduated high school in Stettler, Alberta. He met his wife, Betty Stauffer, at her 16th birthday party, and they were married on June 26, 1952, in a garden wedding ceremony on her parents’ farm near Botha. Mitch was accepted to the U of A in the Faculty of Education. Prior to starting university, he took a summer job with Esso in Stettler and made the decision to pursue a career with them, which included a two-year stint overseas in the United Arab Emirates, before eventually retiring in Redwater. Together, Mitch and Betty lived in Big Valley, Stettler, Edmonton, Redwater, an acreage near Bruderheim, back to Edmonton, and most recently Summerwood Village in Sherwood Park.
Mitch took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and is fondly remembered for his cowboy hat and boots to all those who knew him.
Mitch was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Betty; his parents Edwin and Peal Bruntlett and sister Wanda Evans.
