I was deeply saddened to hear of Darren’s passing. I had the privilege of working closely with him for nearly a decade at Rife. Over that time, Darren and I were able to share countless stories and experiences about work and our personal lives.
I sincerely appreciated not only his immense working knowledge but also his remarkable ability to bring common sense solutions to what seemed like complex problems. Darren had a rare gift of taking a half step back and seeing the bigger picture, while offering practical, common-sense solutions that had a lasting impact on our enterprise and everyone around him. I always knew and trusted that Darren was there when I needed him and believe he took pride in being there whenever he was needed.
Darren's deep love, commitment and admiration for his family always stood out to me. His passion for spending time with his children and creating lasting memories through youth sport was truly inspiring. He often spoke of how important those moments were and it was clear how much he cherished those memories. I can't count the number of times he reminded me how important making time for family was and that the kids grow up so fast.
Please know that my thoughts are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Darren’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, both personally and professionally. I feel incredibly fortunate to have known him and worked alongside him.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Robert, Cherise, Taylor & Damon Hay

Q: What will you miss most about Darren?
A: First and foremost, our deepest condolences to Maureen and your family!
Anyone who knew Darren is truly saddened with his passing! Soon your memories will over come your sadness, he will always be watching over you!
I met Darren in 2002 at work with Rife!
First I thought he was a rough and tough co-worker, but it didn't take long to meet the best guy that I've ever worked with!
His stories about the mountain trips, working with the cows, hunting for the biggest whitetail ever!("Contender" as any of his hunting buddies will remember) were so hilarious as he always had a story to tell!
He loved his family first and always told us about the fun had by all!
He was a hard worker and most dedicated to get the job done, as there was always something else he had to run to get finished!
Anyone who ever met Darren will always remember him for his belly laugh that made everyone laugh along!
The good lord always takes the good ones way too soon, bye for now until we meet again Darren

Although I can't attend tomorrow, I would like to show my support and heartfelt sadness for all of the family and close friends. Thanks Darren for opening the world of Donalda Ranch riding to me.
You cracked a lot of jokes about me not going to Donalda school and still having counting issues.
The last thing you passed over to me while riding was a beer and I heard you say you would never move anywhere in the winter to be close to your potential grandchildren. Rest well in heaven.

Maureen, Brett and Kelsey… we are so saddened to hear of Darren’s passing. They always say we never know when our time is up until it happens. He was a lot of fun out at Yaha and I know I felt safe when he was with us on rides - for his knowledge and packing his gun in bear/cougar country, Sitting around the fire was fun and rides at Donalda. Thinking of you all, Darren’s parents and the rest of the family and the whole community - such a huge loss. You were blessed to have him as long as you did. He lives on in the kids and future grandkids. Hugs to you all. Charlene and Randy Suominen

Darren and I grew up together, going to school in the same grade from 1 until Graduation in 1984. A cherished relationship, continued through our adult years. Darren was an incredible athlete in all sports. Fond memories of playing hockey on an outdoor rink, being coached by his Dad, Gary. Darren was the best cross country runner in the county. We drove around a lot. Called it cruising. Remember his green short box Chevy, or the burgundy Ranchero , we put a few miles on. Taught me how to milk a cow. Drive stick , in his Dads old Ford uphill, poor clutch. We did so much together. Needless to say he was a Best Friend. I will miss him dearly. My heart goes out to Maureen, and the kids, Gary , Sharon, Troy, Lori and the entire Family. My time spent with you all on the farm was priceless. Rest in Peace my friend. Till we meet again.

My condolences to the Rider family. I met Darren many years ago as a young IT person going out the Ferintosh. He was kind, considerate, well-spoken and I appreciated that he made me feel welcome in an unfamiliar place. It always nice to chat with him when he came to Calgary. He was one of kind and we will miss seeing his friendly face.

Word cannot begin to describe the shock this news brought. I remember the first day of school in grade one when Sharron brough Darren into the classroom, a shy boy who did not want to stay. Fortunately, we knew each other from Sunday School, and it wasn't long until Darren became the leader of the pack and stayed there throughout our school years. Darren talked tough, but had one of the kindest hearts a person could have and would always stand up for what he believed was right. He was just all around a great guy who everyone was proud to have as a friend.
My sincerest condolences go out to the Rider and Larose family.
