Obituary of Gladys Harriet Anderson
GLADYS HARRIET ANDERSON
June 18, 1934 – February 26, 2025
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gladys (Toots) Anderson on February 26, 2025, in Stettler, Alberta in her home with her boys by her side.
Gladys (Toots) was born in Erskine on June 18, 1934, to Dave & Anne Brown. She grew up north of Erskine and went to Behron School. She was the second youngest of a family of ten. She lived on the farm until her folks retired and moved to Stettler.
She married Ritchie Anderson in August of 1953, they lived in Stettler, Calgary and Red Deer. They settled back on the farm south of Erskine where they raised their four sons – Murray, Doug, Kelly and Darren. Ritchie lost his arm in a farm accident in 1970; however, they stayed on the farm until 1976 when they moved to Stettler.
Ritchie passed away suddenly in 1989, and Toots carried on with the help of her family. She and Ritchie loved camping and fishing and spent many happy times with their friends. Toots had a passion for her yard & flowers and was always in the garden. Ceramics was a pastime she loved as well as many more crafts such as knitting/crocheting, but woodworking was her favorite and she spent many hours building lawn furniture, etc. Toots loved to have people over and the coffee was always on as well as a plate of fresh baked goods.
Gladys is survived by her sons Murray (Jackie) Anderson and Doug (Laurie) Anderson; grandchildren: Janine Anderson, Lareina (Jason) Caswell, Rory Anderson and Lexi (Lyndon) Copithorne; great granddaughter Leah Copithorne; sisters Alice Norris and Audrey Ward (Wally); sister-in-law Helen Anderson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many good friends.
Gladys was predeceased by parents Dave and Anne Brown; husband Ritchie; two sons Kelly in 2005 and Darren in 2007; brothers: Dave, Allan, Jim and Leonard; sisters: Helen Combest, Edie Olhausen and Isabelle Norris; sisters-in-law: Marg Brown, Jean Brown, Norma Brown, Bernice Brown, Jean Locke and Pat Anderson; brothers-in-law: Dale Norris, Charlie Anderson, Harvey Anderson, Jim Anderson, John Anderson and Ray Locke.
The family is incredibly grateful to Dr. Eme Vermeulen, Stettler Home Care & a few very special friends, for their exceptional support and unwavering dedication to mom’s care. Thank you!!
