Obituary of Gordon Julian Eugene Reynolds
Gordon Reynolds passed away peacefully at the Stettler Hospital & Care Centre in Stettler, Alberta on April 10, 2025, at the age of 90 years.
Gordon was born in Gadsby, Alberta on July 18, 1934, to John and Alta Reynolds. He attended Big Knife School as a child and grew up with a strong work ethic and love for the land. On January 24, 1958, he married Shirley Sobey, and together they shared 62 wonderful years, 55 of which were spent farming in the Gadsby and Westwoods area before retiring to Stettler in 2013.
A dedicated farmer and rancher, Gordon also worked tirelessly in various roles throughout his life, including time on the drilling rigs, at the local coal mine, and as the Pioneer Elevator Manager in Gadsby.
Outside of work, Gordon was a man of many hobbies and talents. He enjoyed golf—proudly winning the longest putt at the 1994 Co-op Men's Tournament—bowling in Galahad, fishing from the dugout with family, camping at Big Knife Park, and playing bean bags and endless card games. He was deeply involved in his community, serving at the Westwoods Community Hall and on the board of directors for the Gadsby Church until his passing.
Gordon had a keen interest in photography and was well-known for forwarding a steady stream of email jokes to friends and family. He was a gifted storyteller, delighting others with his sharp memory and recitations of classic poems—some of which were best shared with an adult audience.
Gordon was predeceased by his wife Shirley; son Norman; parents John and Alta Reynolds; brother Glen Reynolds; sister Evelyn Guichon; brothers-in-law Nelson Connon and Dave Guichon and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Reynolds.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Cathy Reynolds-Hennig (Tim); daughter-in-law Karen Reynolds (Shane Nyuli); grandchildren Amanda Reynolds and Colton Reynolds (Trista); great grandson Maverick Reynolds; sister Margaret Connon (Frank Chick); and all who were fortunate to share in his stories, his laughter, and his kind spirit.
