Obituary of Elmer Charles Forsberg
In Loving Memory Elmer Charles Forsberg
March 11, 1939 – June 15, 2025
Elmer Charles Forsberg of Bashaw, Alberta passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 86.
Elmer was born on March 11, 1939, in Camrose, Alberta, to Raymond and Mabel Forsberg, the eldest of seven children. He grew up in the Edberg and Ferintosh areas and attended school in New Norway and Kensington School. From a young age, Elmer was no stranger to hard work, helping on the family farm and holding various jobs including school bus driving, trucking, and automotive mechanics.
On June 2, 1967, Elmer married the love of his life, Mary Louise Lund. Together they welcomed son Timothy Charles in 1968, son Robert Elmer in 1969, and daughter Elaine Mary—whom they adopted in 1972—completing their loving family.
In 1970, the family moved to Coronation, Alberta, where Elmer worked as a truck driver for Unifeed and eventually managed the local feed mill. In 1973, they returned to Bashaw where Elmer worked at the feed mill and for Alberta Transportation. He also served the community as a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver.
In 1979, the family settled on an acreage near Bashaw, where Elmer found great joy in rural life. In 1980, he began working at the Bashaw Hospital as a maintenance engineer. Ever determined, he studied in the evenings to earn his Fourth-Class Steam Engineering Certificate. He remained at the hospital until his retirement on April 1, 1999.
In 1995, Elmer and Mary purchased a farm toy parts business, travelling throughout Western Canada. They sold the business in 2011 and enjoyed their retirement travelling and attending music jams.
Elmer will be forever loved and remembered by his loving wife, Mary; children, Tim (Lesley) of Elnora and Elaine (Ross) of Sylvan Lake; grandchildren, Alex (Alanna), Dani, Janelle, and Connor; great-grandchildren, Maxxum, Grayson, Kaden, and Lyndi; siblings, Diane and Leland; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Predeceasing Elmer were his parents, Raymond and Mabel Forsberg; son, Robert Elmer Forsberg; brothers, Debbner, Gerry, Arvid, and Ardell; brothers-in-law, John Madore, Elmer Grover, Bill Westergard, and Jack Lund; sisters in law, Mabel Madore and Marilyn Forsberg; nephews, Jim Madore and Ken Madore; niece, Barb Klicki.
