Obituary of Dale William Rider
In Loving Memory
Dale “Dick” Rider
July 3, 1947 ~ July 2, 2025
Dale “Dick” William Rider of Donalda AB passed away peacefully July 2nd, one day shy of his 78th birthday.
Born July 3, 1947, to Percy and Astrid Rider, Dick was the youngest of five. He grew up on the family farm by Boss Hill and attended school in Donalda and Stettler.
After graduating he briefly lived in Calgary, working for Eatons. He knew the city life wasn’t for him, he moved back to Boss Hill where he farmed for many years. In the mid 90’s he decided that he didn’t get to work with enough cattle and joined the crew at the Stettler Auction Mart.
His younger years you would often find him participating in sports and poker rallies. The ball diamond, hockey and curling rinks or on the back of a horse somewhere is where you’d find him if he wasn’t at his beloved farm.
Dick met Linda by chance through mutual friends, they dated for roughly a year before marrying June 8, 1974. This union brought two children, Chris in 1978 and Cathy in 1984.
It took convincing to have Dick leave the farm but when Linda did, they enjoyed traveling, attending rodeos, the kids and grandkids events and coffee with family and friends.
He loved the simple, quiet life. His kind heart, soft tone and bright (sometimes mischievous) smile will be missed by a who knew him.
Dale will be remembered by his son Chris (Candace) Rider; daughter Cathy Rider; grandchildren Carsen, Dexton, Spencer, Asher and Chloe; siblings: Diane Hay, Gary (Sharon) Rider; brothers-in-law Ted Schoff and Robert McRae; sister-in-law Verna Stirling; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Predeceased by his wife Linda; parents Percy and Astrid Rider; parents-in-law Bud and Audrey McRae; brother Ron Rider; sister Gail Schoff; sisters-in-law Sophie Rider and Flo Rider and brother-in-law Mel Hay.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Points West Living for the incredible care Dad received, words can’t begin to express how much you meant to us. Thank you.
