In Loving Memory of Irene Pearl Dumont

February 9, 1939 – November 20, 2025

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Mom. Irene Dumont was born on February 9th, 1939, to Robert and Josephine Lucier. She was born into a family of 15 children, most of whom have predeceased her, except for one sister, Edna Jerome, and one brother, Rene’ Lucier.

Mom married Dad, Lenard Dumont, and eventually they were blessed with five children: Marlene, Lorraine, Elaine, Dale, and Diane. Mom raised us in a two-room house in San Clara, Manitoba, with no running water, and Dad worked away most of the time. Around 1973, we moved to Roblin, Manitoba, to a much bigger house with all the amenities.   She must have thought she wasn't busy enough, because she took a job at the bakery where she had worked for many years.

Around 1981, Mom moved again to Kamsack, Saskatchewan, where she ended up working at Eaglestone Lodge. She was very proud when she graduated with a diploma in Special Care Aide. She worked at the lodge for about 16 years, retiring at 65. But that still did not slow her down; she quickly joined the horticultural club, the Legion, quilting for beginners and many other groups.   She earned many red ribbons for her pride-and-joy roses and lilies, we all have quilts on our beds, and she marched on Remembrance Day in honour of her dad, who served in World Wars I and II.  After many years, she moved into an independent suite at Eaglestone Lodge and continued her hectic life in the exact place she once worked.

In June 2021, she moved to Paragon Place in Stettler to be closer to some of the family. She settled into lodge life, where she should have slowed down but remained very active, playing shuffleboard every morning, helping with Christmas decorations, dressing up for Halloween, her favourite holiday, and she rarely missed any of the live entertainment in the lodge.   She assisted the lodge staff with flowers in the summer and anything else she could get involved in.

She remained very active in quilting, gardening, and her passion for baking and making jams, jellies, and other preserves did not fade just because she moved to the lodge. She joined another quilting club, rejoined the CWL, and even earned her 15-year pin. Mom was one of the busiest people we could remember, and we urged her to slow down numerous times-“slow down and enjoy the passing minutes, hours, and years”-but her motto was “I have no time for that.”

With our deepest regrets, we lost our mother on November 20th at the Stettler Hospital, where she had been for about 49 days. We believe her body simply couldn't keep up with her list of all the things she thought she had to do.  We had no choice but to let her go.

Irene is survived by her children: Marlene (Dean) Kozak, Lorraine (Don) Schmollinger, Elaine (Randy) Hudye, Dale Dumont and Diane (Tim) Gall; grandchildren: Billy Kozak, Jay-Dean (Bryce) Unrau, Dustin Schmollinger, Dallas (Michelle) Schmollinger, Keylan Hudye, Avery Hudye and Joshua Gall; one great grandchild Grayson Schmollinger; sister Edna Jerome; brother Rene’ Lucier; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Irene was predeceased by her parents Josephine and Robert Lucier and twelve brothers and sisters.
