Obituary of Dianne Nichole Petersen
Dianne Petersen
1975 ~ 2025
Dianne Nichole Petersen (formerly Long), age 50, of Erskine, Alberta, passed away unexpectedly on December 20th 2025 of a heart attack, leaving behind a family who loved her deeply and a community forever changed by her presence.
Dianne was truly larger than life. She had a way of filling every room she entered—not just with her laughter, but with her unmistakable personality and warmth. She wore her individuality proudly, often expressed through her clothing, her humor, and her fearless ability to be exactly who she was. Dianne never apologized for being herself, and those who knew her loved her more for it.
Dianne loved gathering her family around the table for dinners filled with conversation, laughter and love. Christmas held a special place in her heart—she never did anything halfway and always went overboard to make the season magical for those she loved. Her home was a place of magic, celebration, and belonging.
Above all else, Dianne cherished her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Lyle Petersen, and a loving mother to her children: Shamus Long (Carley Flavell), Emily Hobson (Westleigh Booth), Bree Nichols (Reece Nichols) and Zack Petersen (Sasha Smith). One of her greatest joys in life was becoming a grandmother. She adored her grandchildren—Finley Nichols, Pepper Nichols, Paige, Grace, Jaxon Petersen and Levi Petersen—and wore that title with immense pride. She is lovingly remembered by her mother Alberta Grave (Ken Grave); father Dawson Long (Shay Long); brother Jason Long; along with many extended family members and countless friends who were touched by her vibrant spirit.
Dianne was predeceased by her grandparents Byron Roscoe Long and Verna Long, and Albert and Betty Pridgeon, whom she now joins in eternal rest.
Honouring Dianne as pallbearers are her unofficial family from FCSS—colleagues who became dear friends and with whom she made countless incredible memories. Their presence reflects the deep connections Dianne formed everywhere she went and the lasting impact she had on those around her.
Dianne’s legacy lives on in the laughter she shared, the traditions she created, and the fierce love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were lucky enough to know her.
