Obituary of Antonius Maria Hermus
In Loving Memory
Tony Hermus
May 15, 1931 ~ February 6, 2026
The Lord has called our dear Dad home; Antonius Maria “Tony” Hermus died peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026. Tony was born on May 15, 1931 on the family farm near Hoeven, Holland to parents Antonia (née Vermunt) and Laurentius Hermus as the ninth of ten children. On February 19, 1955, Tony and Joanne Hermus were wed in Holland and shortly after immigrated to Canada.
After labouring as hired hands on various farms in southern Alberta, they purchased and moved onto their own farm near Big Valley in 1964. They retired in Stettler in 1992. Tony loved the farm life but adjusted well to retirement, filling his time with fishing, bicycling, dancing, playing cards and going for walks. Tony loved to travel with Joanne — across Canada and through the USA, numerous trips back to Holland and 23 seasons as a “snowbird” in Arizona.
Their door was always open to family and friends for coffee or a drink, playing cards, or just a good visit. Tony’s greatest loves were God and his family. He was never too busy to attend and support any events or accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, these were the treasures of his life. His family were always in his prayers and he will always be in ours
Tony is survived by his loving family: children: Dimphy (Cliff) Benusic of Bawlf, Louis (Jan) Hermus of Big Valley, Mary Anne (Ron) Korn of Edmonton and Susan (Graham) Kathol of Drayton Valley; daughter in law Carol Hermus (Terry); grandchildren: Natasha (Justin) Harty, Michael (Anelyse) Benusic, Chelsea Hermus, Braden (Amber) Hermus, Breanne (Cody) Kihn, Jared (Kori) Hermus, Logan Hermus (Abria), Brock Hermus, Rachel Korn, Alyssa (Michael) Schatz, Anthony (Helena) Kathol, Amariah Kathol (Patrick), Alanna (Tristen) Norman and Arika Kathol (Shaye); great grandchildren: Rebecca, Kaitlyn, Callie, Linden, Rhodes, Hannah, Natalie, Evelyn, Finn and Sully; step great grandchildren: Eliza and Hayden; three sisters: Cora Rommens, Adrie Damen and Leny Goorden; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
Tony was predeceased by his parents Antonia and Laurentius Hermus; wife Joanne Hermus and son Ken Hermus.
