Helen Lorraine Gendre

December 6, 1931 ~ June 30, 2026

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Helen Lorraine Gendre, who was born on December 6, 1931, in the rural Rumsey district of Alberta to Alvin Edward Clark Watts and Isa Helen Primrose. Lorraine’s life was a tapestry woven with devotion, laughter, and an abiding love for family and community. Lorraine also was very close to her only sister Sharon Byrd.

Lorraine made her home in the Ewing Lake and Scollard areas with her beloved husband, Bernard Gendre, where together they built a life rich in warmth, hard work, and cherished memories. Their home was a gathering place — a haven of welcome, kindness, and shared stories.

She leaves behind her devoted children, Judy (née Wooden) Gendre and Walter (Lorrie) Wooden; and her stepchildren Eileen (Ted) Perry, Marie (Bill) Mailman, Brian Gendre, Denis (Donna) Gendre, Cheryl (Ben) Dolan, Diane (Trent) Moore, and David (Martina) Gendre. Lorraine was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each one a source of immeasurable pride and joy.

Lorraine is reunited in eternal peace with her husband Bernard; her children Danny Wooden, Deborah (née Wooden) Gendre, Ricky Wooden, Kay (née Wooden) Dyck, and Bruce Wooden; and her stepchildren Marjorie Gendre and Larry Gendre. Her sister Sharon, parents Alvin and Isa, and caring stepfather Ed Denzler are also reunited with Lorraine.

She will be deeply missed by her extended family, her friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her spitfire spirit.

Lorraine possessed a smile that could brighten any room and a heart that welcomed all. She delighted in the simple beauty of life — tending her garden, endless painting, travelling, camping with loved ones, exploring local history, and losing herself in puzzles and games. Her curiosity, her warmth, and her ability to bring joy to others were gifts she shared freely and often. She was caring, always offering a helping hand to those who needed.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind — moments of laughter, wisdom, and love that will continue to guide and uplift us.

In accordance with Lorraine’s wishes, a small service will be held at the Stettler Funeral Home, followed by a gathering to honour her life and the legacy she leaves in the hearts of those she loved.

She will be forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered.
