Obituary
Obituary of Robert "Bob" Roland Woolgar Simmons
Robert (Bob) was delivered by mid wife Nurse Magel in a farm house just north of Alix. He was the third child of Charles Henry (Harry) Simmons and Alice Charlotte Louise Simmons.
Bob attended the Alix School until graduation and in 1951 he attended Olds College and earned an Agricultural degree. Family and friends have heard numerous stories of the pranks that were pulled there while Bob was attending.
While at college Bob met Alice Louise Parker and it was love at first sight. They were married January 28, 1953 and made their home on the quarter section of land Bob had purchased in the Stanton area. Four children were born over the next few years, Linda, Alice (deceased), Karen and Lorne. As the children grew up, pigs and later cows were raised on the farm as Bob worked at various jobs including the Jennings dealership and driving school bus before going into business on his own. These ventures included a partnership in a service station then owning a septic tank truck and later a backhoe.
Bob loved the outdoors. He went on numerous hunting and fishing trips which included one to the Northwest Territories to shoot a Dall sheep and one to Mexico to catch a marlin. He was one of the original (1982) members of the Alix Trophy Club and was an active member until his passing.
Bob also took up woodworking and he made some beautiful pieces of work which include many miniatures that involved hours and hours of tedious labour.
Over the years the grandchildren and great grandchildren arrived and Bob enjoyed them all and every minute he spent with them.
In their later years Bob and Alice travelled to England, Scotland, Hawaii, Yukon, Disneyland, Reno, Yellowstone and many other destinations. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary before Alice’s passing in 2007. Bob lived and worked in the Alix area all of his life and his stories and jokes will be missed by all.
Bob is survived by his loving family: brother Maurice Simmons; daughters Linda Trapp (Jim Burton) and Karen (Curt) Giesbrecht; son Lorne (Laurel) Simmons; beloved grandchildren: Rhonda (Allen) Zimmer, Michael Giesbrecht, Tina (Jordan) Karst, Lisa Giesbrecht, Laken Simmons, Lane Simmons and Tori Simmons; dear great grandchildren: Rhiannon, Cameron, Kade, Davin and one great grandchild on the way; other family members and many dear friends.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Harry and Alice, wife Alice, infant daughter Alice and sister Pat.
