Joyce Stock

Obituary of Joyce Eileen Stock

Joyce Eileen Wicks was born in Strathmore, Alberta to Perry and Annie Wicks on June 3, 1931. Joyce passed away on January 24, 2011 at the Stettler Health Care Centre at the age of 79 years. She met and married Dave Stock and raised five wonderful children. Joyce was stern, principled, and ethical and always had this sixth sense about her children; was also caring & sensitive, fun loving, curious, and inventive, a gardener, and a great cook. In fact anyone would say she shared love by sharing food. Joyce was fed by curiosity and this fueled her search for beauty in life, she loved making things, gardening and beautifying their home. She would be inspired by buying magazines, watching TV or even travelling – although she hated flying. Joyce's other love was camping with her beloved husband Dave. They made many extraordinary friends along the way. Their trailers were often modest over the years, but even with those, she made it their own. All of the kids have many great memories of camping and exploring Western Canada & the States. The family got to see the world beyond their own backyard. Joyce will always be our Friend, our Mother, our Grandmother our Great Grandmother and of course, our Dad's best friend. Joyce leaves to mourn her husband David Stock; sons Lee (Rhonnie) Stock and Jef Stock (Glenn Preston); daughters Cheryl (Glen) Taylor, Pat Ross (Donn Whenham) and Dee (Dale) Green; grandchildren: Todd Ginger (January), Pamela Ginger, Shawn Taylor (Maria), Hollie Taylor (Doug), Dillon Stock, Justin Stock, Colton Ross, Carter Ross, Derek Green, Delaine Green and Dara Green (Cody Hallett); great granddaughters Chelsea and Haley Taylor; great great granddaughter Mylie; brothers Gary (Sue) Wicks and David (Joan) Parsons; sister Loretta (Robert) Capristo; brother in law Vern (Pat) Stock and sister in law Betty (Issac) Quiring; brother in law Larry Friedenberg and sister in law Peggy Wicks; other relatives and many friends. Predeceased by her parents Annie and Perry Wicks, her brother Ray Wicks, sisters Shirley Friedenberg and Sharon Parsons. A memorial service was held on Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home. Several of the children gave loving tributes and presented poems in memory of Joyce. Several of Joyce’s favorite songs by Rod Stewart were played during the service. Honorary pallbearers were Ted and Doris Roberts, Hal and Ellen Nelson, Bob and Eileen Green, Bob and Gail Telford and all of her loving grandchildren. Family and friends gathered in the Heartland Reception Centre for a time of sharing stories and a light luncheon. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Joyce to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or to Alberta Diabetes.
