Obituary of Amy Evelyn Bates

Amy Evelyn Nixon was born on December 30, 1927 in Craigmyle, Alberta to parents Christina and John Nixon, being one of the ten Nixon children. Amy passed away peacefully on March 29, 2017 in Stettler, Alberta at the age of 89 years. Amy married Francis Kinley Bates on January 28, 1951 in Hanna, Alberta. Amy and Francis raised five sons on the family farm. Through the years their family grew to include daughters in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all whom Amy loved dearly. Left to mourn her passing are husband Francis Bates of Stettler; children: Mike (Sherrie) Bates of Gadsby, Pat (Elaine) Bates of Markerville, Tim (Brigitte) Bates of Santiago, Chile, Dana (Basia) Bates of Edmonton and Al (Karen) Hunter of Calgary; grandchildren: Laurie DeLeon of Gadsby, Lisa (Len) Greiner of Gadsby, Lee (Melanie) Bates of Gadsby; Casey (Jacquelin) Sayles of Maple Ridge, Kirby (Josephine) Sayles of Cremona, Angela Bates of Spruce Grove and Nicole Bates (Chris Dolan) of Cranbrook; Heather (Andy) Kohen of Santiago, Chile, Shannon Bates of Santiago, Chile, Christina Bates of Edmonton, Andrew Bates of Edmonton, Jonathan Bates of Edmonton, Jeff Hunter of Calgary and Lisa Hunter of Calgary; great grandchildren: Faith, Miguel, Tyler, Derek, Jordan, Mackenzie, Sierra, Haley, Hannah, Sierra, Alexus, Kirby Jr., Levi and Austin; sister in law Isabel Nixon of Stettler; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many dear friends. Amy was predeceased by her parents and all of her sisters and brothers. A funeral service for the late Amy Evelyn Bates will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Stettler Funeral Home, Stettler, Alberta. Amy will be laid to rest in the Craigmyle Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory are gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice.
