Obituary of Marie Louisa Bignell

Marie Louisa Bignell (nee Gosling) of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully on July 1, 2017 in Red Deer at the age of 92 years. Marie was born in Gem, Alberta on October 5, 1924 to Sidney and Ann Gosling. Marie attended school in Lathom and graduated from Bassano High School. After graduation she moved to Stettler and was employed with the Royal Bank in Stettler. Marie met Ken Bignell at a dance in Stettler and they were married on November 4, 1946. Marie and Ken bought the family farm northeast of Stettler from his parents and resided there until Ken’s passing in 1981. They were active in the Stettler Light Horse Club including trail rides, parades and a particular favorite, the musical ride. She also enjoyed being a member of the Pilot Knob Ladies Club for a number of years. Following Ken’s passing, Marie moved to Stettler working in Fields Store until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and took pride and pleasure in here beautifully tended yard. Family was very important to Marie and she especially loved being a grandmother and great grandmother. Her four grandchildren have many fond memories of staying with her in the summers as they were growing up. Marie will be lovingly remember by her brother Albert Gosling (Carol Christensen); son Terry Bignell (Lynda); daughter Lorna Tweten (Mac); grandchildren, Trevor Bignell (Sue), Brett Bignell (Kelly), Lisa Tweten and Kelly Tweten. She was a proud great grandmother to Kristi and Jordan Bignell and Matthew and Kate Bignell. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Frances Bignell and numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Ken, parents Sidney and Anne, sisters Mae Weaver, Mary Freeman, Edith Thompson and brothers Sidney Gosling and Fred Gosling.
