Helga Liebe

Obituary of Helga Luise Marie Liebe

It is with great sadness that the family of Helga Liebe (nee Lehnert) announces her passing on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the age of 87 years. Helga emigrated from Berlin, Germany in 1957 to join her husband Horst Liebe in Botha, Alberta. Helga was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother and had many cherished friends in the community. She had a very quirky sense of humor and often punctuated her stories and jokes with great bouts of laughter in seemingly odd moments. When she found a measure of happiness and she smiled she was truly beautiful. In many ways she was a very strong woman who worked long and hard at raising seven children and at finding her own expression and independence. She was a product of her times yet adapted and transformed herself and her family’s life to meet many challenges in Canada. She was durable and enduring and her life’s story is about love, determination and her courage and commitment to her family. Helga will be lovingly remembered by her children: Monika Stahlberg, Inge (Ed) Schowalter, Kurt (Michelle) Liebe, Pat (Greg) LaRose, Gerd (Cindy) Liebe; her grandchildren: Mark (Kristin), Dariel (Ken), Angela (Mike), Quinten (Leigh-Ann), Nicholas, Geoffrey, Jean-Paul, Brock, Jaret, Kayla, Dylan, Letitia (Darrin), Todd (Donna) and Ben. She was also fondly remembered as Oma by two more generations of great and great-great grand children. She will be missed and remembered by special friends Martine and Eric Sabatier of Sherwood Park and friends in Botha, Stettler, Edmonton, Ontario and in Germany. Helga was predeceased by her parents, her husband Horst, her brother Kurt, son Gunther and daughters Regina and Marianne. A graveside service will be held at the Botha Woodland Cemetery, Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Friends and family are invited to gather at the Botha Seniors Centre after the service for refreshments and fellowship. Memorial donations may be made to Woodland Cemetery, Botha, Alberta.
