Obituary of Audrey Donna Boyd

Audrey Donna (Bignell) Boyd of Stettler passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Stettler Hospital Complex. Audrey was born on September 21, 1936 in Athabasca, Alberta to Izetta (Crowder) and Vic Bignell. The young family moved back to the Stettler area the following year and after Audrey finished Grade 1, they moved to north of Gadsby. Audrey lived with her Bignell grandparents in Stettler to attend Grade 10 and then boarded with Mrs. Peden while she worked as a Nurses' Aide at the Stettler Hospital. She married William (Bill) Boyd on April 15, 1955 and they moved to the Boyd family farm south of Gadsby. Three daughters were born to this union. Audrey was very active in the Shooting Lake community playing ball, organizing picnics, Christmas concerts, and bingos. Audrey and Bill had a mixed farming operation with Bill's parents. Audrey was busy raising 3 daughters as well as working on the farm. They sold the farm in 1977 and moved to an acreage in the town of Stettler. Audrey kept busy with sewing, reading and taking care of her precious grandchildren. Audrey was a music fan and identified with many songs written and sung by country women artists. She loved ballads and the stories they told. Her favourite singers, dancers and actors, however were her children and grandchildren. The same holds true for athletes and Audrey and Bill spent countless hours at ball diamonds and hockey arenas cheering on their favourite team! Audrey is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill Boyd; daughters Donna (Markus) Boyd-Stadelmann and Gloria LaRose; Grandchildren: Joe, Kimberlee (Willie Banfield), David and Beverly Stadelmann, Tara-Lee, Matthew, Lewis (Lindsay) and Meghan LaRose; sisters Marian Blackmore, Joyce (Bill) Hansel and Betty Stotz; nieces, nephews and other family members. Audrey was predeceased by her parents Vic and Izetta Bignell, daughter Ellen Boyd, son-in-law Robin LaRose, parents-in-law Melvin and Vira Boyd, brothers-in-law Jim Blackmore and Ed Stotz.
