Obituary of Elenore Ruth Gabert

Our dear Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Elenore Ruth (Becker) Gabert was born to Fred and Anna Becker on August 5/1932.  She was promoted to Heaven on March 14/2020, at the age of 87, after a seven year diagnosis of leukemia. 

She was the 3^rd youngest of 12 children.  She grew up in several rural Saskatchewan and Alberta towns, since her Dad was a minister.  Mom accepted Christ into her heart at a young age and was steadfast in her faith throughout her life.

While her family was living in Castor, AB she met her husband, our Dad, Denis Gabert at the church youth group.  They were married on August 13, 1955 and in time, were blessed with three children Mark, Alyce and Carla.

During the first few years of marriage, Mom worked as a legal aid secretary at the Stettler Court House (which now is located on the Stettler Museum grounds).  She was very happy to become a stay-at-home wife and mother and was always there for us.  Mom enjoyed coffee visits with her friends, gardening, crafts, sewing and cooking.  She was always involved in the church, whether it was teaching a Sunday School class, being a prayer partner to someone, or hosting bible studies at their home.  Many, many of our family and friends have fond memories of visits and gatherings at the Gabert home.  Over the years, while living in Castor, Big Valley, Stettler, Three Hills, Red Deer and eventually back to Stettler, Mom has touched the lives of many people who will deeply miss her, including her children and grand-children.

She was predeceased by her husband Denis, her son-in-law Gerald, her parents and nine siblings.  Elenore is survived by her children: Mark (Karen) Gabert, Alyce (Chris) Allaster-Hunsperger, Carla Mills; seven grandchildren: Logan, Landon, Tara (Nick), Adam, Tyler, Cody (Jess) and Brandon (Chariti); three great grandchildren: Ryder, Carson and Dane; brother Ken Becker; sisters Miriam Roemmich and Betty (Ken) Belsher; sister in law Irma Becker and brother in law Keith Cox; as well as other family and friends.

We wish to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Bouwer and the staff at Points West Living for their excellent care of Mom.

A private graveside service is taking place at the Castor Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Erskine Evangelical Free Church.
