Joyce Stella Martha Potter

It is with great sadness that the family of Joyce Stella Martha Potter announces her passing on July 21, 2020 at the age of 85 years. Joyce was born in Camrose on May 31, 1935, the second of four children to Roland and Alberta Liebing. She spent her first years on a small farm near Rosalind, and then moved to other farm homes in the Botha and Gadsby area. Joyce took all of her schooling at Botha School. She married William “Lyle” Potter on June 25, 1952 and continued to live in her family home. She worked hard as a farm wife and mother of five children. Offering ceramics classes helped with income and special bonds were formed with neighbors and friends.

Joyce and Lyle moved to two homes in and around Stettler before deciding to retire in Red Deer. They resided there for many years benefitting from Joyce’s talents for renovating their homes. Many winters were enjoyed in Yuma, Arizona. In 2014, Joyce and Lyle returned to Stettler to receive more care.  Joyce moved into Paragon Place, which she lovingly considered as her home because of the caring attitude and sense of community spirit provided by staff and residents.  At the time of her passing, Joyce was in Stettler Health Center waiting for Long Term Care.

Joyce kept an immaculate house and loved baking sweets. Even in her later years, visitors were treated to snacks and beverages. She rarely missed a bingo game, enjoyed the afternoon sing-songs, and spent numerous hours working on jigsaw puzzles. She cherished hugs and kisses from family, especially the little great grandchildren who always elicited a smile.

Joyce is fondly remembered by her children: Ron (Marilyn) Potter of Stettler, Glen (Nancy) Potter of Nelson, Roxie (Terry) Bazian of Devon, Lori Potter of Stettler and Donna (Jody) McLellan of Stettler; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; brother Avery (Irene); sister Orlean; sister-in-law Lorraine; numerous other family members and many dear friends. Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Lyle and her sister, Evonne.

A family memorial and interment will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Lacombe, Alberta. Donations in memory of Joyce are gratefully accepted to Parkinson’s Society or to a charity of your choice.

The Potter family would sincerely like to thank ALL of the wonderful

staff and residents at Paragon Place for their caring attitude and sense of community spirit that made an exceptional residence for Mom.  Joyce truly considered it her home.
