Obituary of Eugene Nichols
Eugene was born and raised in Stettler, Alberta. He met the love of his life, Aleta in High School and they were married November 18, 1978. They then had two sons, Kelly and Rusty. He always had a passion for agriculture. He hauled livestock for most of his working career and knew everyone and loved talking to everyone. Eugene loved spending time tinkering around bedding, feeding and checking his cows and he always had a special bond with his heifers.
Eugene was known for many things. He was always kind and showed compassion towards animals and everyone he came across. Hauling livestock can be a stressful job, but he always had the patience and animal sense to make sure they had a stress free ride. Eugene was always willing to help others and was a mentor to many people.
In Eugene’s spare time when he wasn’t haying, hauling, or calving he enjoyed camping with Aleta and their friends. He was very social and loved playing cards, crib and having a couple toddies with friends and family. In his much younger days he enjoyed rodeoing, baseball and hockey. It was common to watch Eugene tinkering outside, feeding his barn full of cats and pulling his four grandchildren (Terrance, Sierra, Raeleigh, and Nash) around on the sled.
We are going to miss Eugene’s optimism, laughter, competitive edge and his stash of goodies in every vehicle, big truck, and tractor. Eugene will always remain in our hearts and will always be Aleta’s favorite pain in the ass.
Eugene is survived by his loving family, wife of 42 years, Aleta Nichols of Stettler; sons Kelly Nichols of Stettler and Rusty Nichols (Melissa) of Stettler; grandchildren: Terrance, Sierra, Raeleigh and Nash; brothers Brad (Leanne) Nichols of Kamsack, SK and Clifford Nichols of Alix; mother in law Maxine Hansel of Stettler; brother in law Lyne (Marina) Hansel of Gadsby; sisters in law Susan (Jim) Renschler of Botha and Debbie Bince of Lethbridge; special auntie, Linda Marcellus of Stettler; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, his trucking family and many dear friends and neighbours.
A Private Family Funeral Service Will Be Held.
Donations in memory of Eugene are gratefully accepted to a charity of the donor’s choice.
