Aunt Dorothy was my mother's sister, I remember when I was about eleven and my two younger sisters would have been eight and five, we travelled to Calgary to visit for about a week. Aunt Dorothy had a lot of spirit, she liked having a beer with her husband, Uncle Ernie when he came home from work every night, with his work boots and hard hat and tin lunch bucket swinging back and forth at the end of his hand and covered with dust from a long day paving the streets of new subdivisions. She had a little machine that she could roll her own cigarettes with and we found that fascinating. And a huge vegetable garden in the back yard. Her kids were pretty young then, maybe two, five and eight. She had a fourth child when we were stationed in Germany (father was in the RCAF). All her kids had names starting with 'D'. Maybe to go with her name. I remember visiting her and uncle Ernie once when I went out to see where my father was buried, and they were building a house then in de Winton I think and were living in a trailer at the time. She lived a very long life and I got the impression she was a good Mom.
