Robert was the fourth child of Robert and Myrtle Mackenzie, born on July 8th, 1943. He and his five sisters: Marian, Martha, Joyce, Margaret and Rene, were born and raised in Flin Flon Manitoba. As a young man Robert loved sports, especially playing hockey.

He worked for Weyerhaeuser in Prince Albert, SK, The Pas, MB, and then in Kamloops, BC. On July 8th, 1974 he met the love of his life, Gloria, in Kamloops, BC. The two were married on October 22, 1977 in Red Deer, AB.

He then worked up north at Pine Point, NWT and then Fort McMurray, AB. He then worked at Nova Chemicals, Joffre. Retired from Nova Chemicals and then worked for two years with Design Group then retired again from there then became a driver examiner with Gloria for three years. Robert was Santa for many years while working at Nova and got to go on numerous trips while working there including, but not limited to: Phoenix, San Antonio, Houston, St Louis, Kansas City, Nashville, Pitsburg and Disney World. They also spent nine years living in Canmore, AB.

Robert loved horses. He and Gloria showed horses in Western and English style. He also had a sleigh and did sleigh rides in the winter and did pack horse trips in the mountains with his friends. He played the bagpipes with the Red Deer pipe band from the mid 80’s to mid 90’s.

Robert loved pedal biking. He and Gloria biked across Canada for the first time in 2002 and then again in 2007, from Vancouver, BC to Halifax, NS. They dunked their bikes in the Pacific Ocean and then in the Atlantic Ocean, with many bike trips in between. In 2009 they joined the TDA global cycling group. During this time they did three to four cruises as well with Princess Cruise lines (Seattle to Alaska, Panama Canal). On April 29th of this year, they left their home in Red Deer, AB, to bike to Charlotte Town, PEI and had planned to be there to see his Grandson Connor for his 80th Birthday.
