In Loving Memory

Gloria J. Diegel

July 20, 1951 ~ November 18, 2023

Gloria Jean was born to Mel and Janet Quance and didn’t stray far from the homestead in Gadsby, AB. Her and Stan, her husband of 53 years settled onto their farm just north of Gadsby in 1972. Everyone who knew and loved her called her Sarge….and we all know with a warm smile just why. She was a RNA at the Stettler hospital and was forever proud for being a nurse. Unfortunately, due to medical reasons she had to leave the hospital; but found so much joy in raising her children and helping on the farm. She started and grew her own flock of sheep and had her ‘purple tag’ cows and was there to help doctor a calf, process cows, haul bales or prepare a meal for the field or a crew.

Family was absolutely everything to Mom and she loved each one of her family and friends fiercely. She never missed a sporting or school event and loved to support her children. This carried on as the family grew and she went to support the next generation and watched many Christmas concerts and sporting games with her grandchildren taking part. Mom showed her love through many ways; and one that we all remember is what an amazing cook she was. No one baked better than Gloria/Mom/Nana; her Christmas baking trays and treats are legendary as well as her Carrot cake, Butter-horns, Spudnuts, Jellyrolls and countless other treats. Almost everyone in the area knows and has a memory of Gloria’s baking treats.

Mom loved to camp, and that was the highlight of the summers every year. She chose various types of holiday trailers over the years, and no matter the weather; it was always a good time. Anyone who went camping with Gloria knew you would be well fed and watered and that she would have absolutely anything that you needed stashed away in her RV.

In recent years she reignited a love of flowers and gardening that she inherited from her Mom. Her and Dad worked together to make some above ground garden beds and she loved her patio flowers. It was so fun to hear her talk about growing vegetables and gardening again. She also fell in love with bird watching out her kitchen window and was always making sure that they had enough feed and seed on hand. She found a love in having an indoor dog; and would often be seen with her sidekick “Asia” following her around the house, out on car rides and in the DQ Drive through.

The other thing that she loved and spent so much time on was her home.  Mom had a very clear sense of home décor style and was “Country Charm” through and through. Her and Dad have spent the last several years building and renovating their home into her dream, and she loved nothing more than to change the décor to the seasons. Her home is an absolute reflection of her; and anyone who walks in the door immediately feels warm and welcomed. She loved to travel around to country stores, antique shops, vintage markets and Christmas or Country markets. She was always on the lookout for that special piece to add to her collection or to buy for a member of the family or a friend that she knew would love it too.

The farm is not a farm.  Their house is not a house.  It is a home. A home that was built with hard work and love and a place that family and friends will always feel welcomed and comfortable…..and that is what was most important to Gloria/Mom/Nana/Sarge. She will be forever missed and forever in our hearts.

Gloria will be forever missed by her loving family; her loving husband of 53 years; Stanley Diegel; her children: Wade (Ybiett) Diegel of Gadsby, Arden (Deanne) Diegel of Gadsby, Tasha (Aaron) Cordel of Ponoka and Richelle (Greg) Skocdopole of Botha: sixteen grandchildren that she was so proud of: Kassandra, Jasmine, Elijah, Isabella, Sadie, Sophie, Ella, Eva, Clyde, Mac, Jules, Alexander (Joie), Chandler, Bridget, Elliot and Jinger; sister Pearl (Orville) Plitt of Leduc; brothers Stan (Bonnie) Quance of Gadsby and Dwight (Iva-Lee) Quance of Gadsby; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other family and many dear friends.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents Mel and Janet Quance.
