Joan, along with many of her brothers and sisters, was very much a part of my childhood and my life in Red Willow. My mom was one of the people she cleaned and babysat for along with doing many other helpful things. A somewhat strict babysitter but not overly so, she quite often would shake her head when she was good enough to stay with my sister and I while our parents vent to conventions. During the many, many times I stayed with her younger sister at the Ziegler farm she was a busy, hardworking member of the family but I can still hear her laughter. She was given and deserved a bedroom of her own as she was the oldest girl and the caretaker of all. Many years down the road I would always have a good visit with her when I was at the Legion and knew that she was so glad to see me. One year I brought her back a fancy watch from the flea market in Arizona and nothing could have made her happier.
Joan was a fine, true blue person, a hard worker, a good daughter and cousin. Thankfully she had family who loved and appreciated her and that includes me.
