Obituary of Rosemary Crowe

Please share a memory of Rosemary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rosemary Crowe

Rose was born in Lancashire, England in 1935 to Mary and Joseph Clark who were farmers near Liverpool, a major port city. Some of her earliest memories were of watching bombing raids and aerial dogfights over the city during WW2, singing in air-raid shelters and listening to the AA guns firing.

She lost her mother at the age of 13, her father later remarried and had three more children. She always loved animals and working outside in the fields. Most pictures of her as a child show her holding a dog or cat or lamb.

She met her husband Reg when he came to work for her father. After getting married and having their first two children, the small family moved to Alberta, Canada. Their third child was born in Edmonton. Reg worked for a few farmers before getting work in the oilpatch. They eventually got their own farm near Big Valley, where they raised their children. Rose looked after the farm and the kids while Reg was often away working on oil rigs. In addition to farming, she spent many years working in the Byemoor hotel bar -- which she greatly enjoyed despite being a lifelong teetotaller-- eventually becoming the manager.

When the time came to sell the farm and retire, they bought an acreage near Stettler. Reg died soon after and Rose was left to fill her time working at the Stettler Auction Mart kitchen, babysitting grandchildren, socializing with the Red Hat ladies and reading books. She lived a long life and was enjoying new friends she had made at a fine old-fashioned church she was attending.

When her health began to decline, she got great solace from the preaching and prayers. She has gone into eternity and will be deeply mourned by her family and friends.

A funeral for Rosemary will be held on Friday July 5, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Stettler Funeral Home &Crematorium’s Heartland Chapel, Stettler, Alberta. Following the service lunch will be served in Stettler Funeral Homes Fellowship Hall.
