Family: Len is survived by children: Sharon (Dennies), Valerie, Brian (Mary), Patricia, and Bill (Kelly); ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Lisa; as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Doris Schmelzer in 2020 and son Randy Schmelzer in 2017. Doris and Leonard were married on July 22, 1950 in Redcliff, Alberta. Doris passed just short of their 70th wedding anniversary. Leonard passed on July 22, 2024, their 74th wedding anniversary.
