MOM was a warrior to be healthy!!!! She loved animals, travelling, nature and family. I have admired her for her tenacity to show us how to be the healthiest we could be. Mom was my biological mom with both of us adopted by The Morton Family. I am most grateful for our times of sharing our experiences being raised on the farm and the early days of living in Miniota and Two Creeks, Manitoba surrounded by family and friends.
I remember travelling to Toronto by train with our adopted dad to visit mom and multiple visits with my husband Ted when she and her husband Bill were living in Mirror and Lacombe. A big trip was with mom, and my sister Dawn visiting Aunt Ethel ( our adopted dad Jim Morton's sister) in Parry Sound, Ontario. I have a picture painted of Peggy's Cove by Hubert Janach who was Aunt Ethel's teacher that is placed on my bedroom dresser ever since that visit in 2005. The same trip, the three us travelled to Kitchner Ontario to visit Aunt Mary McLaren and cousins who was our adopted Mother, Alice Maxfield's sister, who was full of life, humor and the joy of filling our ears with music that had me dancing in the living room. I ended up ill, had to ride on the bus home to Calgary, thank goodness I slept most of the trip instead of throwing up on the bus.
The other memory was celebrating mom's 90th at our place in Calgary escorted by my brother Garner, with her 4 grandchildren, Chad, Candace, Kyla, Karla and 7 great grandchildren (Kaitlyn, Rylan, Jadyn, Joel, Rachel, Cameron and Callum plus all the spouses of our children. The great grandchildren showed their talents of music and love for her which had her smiling experiencing the chaos of a family of 17 and of course the dogs scurrying under her feet. There are many more stories but too many to share in this memory of mom.
I am most blessed to have had a mom who loved me for who I was ( a fiesty child) and who I am today, passionate about helping families who are struggling with mental health and supporting me when I was struggling in life. This means more to me than I can express here and the multiple memories I have.
Her energy and love of life will be missed yet the memories of her will never die as they are firmly planted in my heart and our family's heart. Her guidance from above will always be there for us all. MOM, I AM Blessed to have had you for my mom.
Love Mona, Ted Cooley and family.
