Obituary of Letty Marie Docherty
Letty Marie Docherty
September 18 1946 - December 20, 2024
Letty Marie Docherty passed away in the Red Deer Hospital on December 20, 2024, after a very short battle with cancer.
Letty was born September 18, 1946, in Calgary, Alberta and grew up in Stettler.
After Letty and Rob were married in 1973, they moved back to Stettler. Letty worked as a receptionist with the Alberta Government and then as a Legal assistant with Sloan, Ellis, Landman for several years before working as a Legal Assistant with Dave Ellis until her retirement. She also worked for Rob's Welding for over 20 years.
Letty was very community and volunteer minded. She was involved in the United Church for most of her life and served on the UCW for over 40 years. She was a dance mom and also volunteered for the Stettler Music Festival and the Stettler Figure Skating Club for many years. And was often helping with the Stettler Trap Club. In the past several years, was also often seen around town making deliveries for Vintage Thistle.
She was an avid quilter and was a founding member of the Central Alberta Friendship Exchange (CAFE) quilting group and the Heartland Quilters Guild.
So many of her family and friends are very blessed to have received her beautiful handiwork over the years. She donated many of her quilts and handiwork to the Heartland Youth Centre and Festival of Lights fundraiser.
Letty also enjoyed a good game of scrabble, golfing and any time spent with her sisters.
She is survived by children: Todd (Bonnie) Garstad, Tina Garstad and Tanille Docherty; grandchildren: David Garstad, Jackalynn Garstad (Kori Harris), Jack Timmins and Everett Timmins; sisters: Betts (Jim) Kalbfleish, Joy Wood, Laureen (Neil) Milne, Fay (Mike) Ostifichuk and Vicki Brown; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many dear friends.
Letty was predeceased by her husband Rob Docherty; her parents Jack and Isobel Ritchie; and brothers-in-law David Brown and Dugall Wood.
